Calling all Major League Baseball fans! Spring baseball season has officially arrived. Today is the official first home game of the Seattle Mariners season, and tonight we are at Safeco Field in Seattle to spend a fun family Friday night. The excitement in our house is palatable because of our recent trip to spring training. You may have seen on Instagram, but just a few weeks ago, we missed our flight at Sea Tac but were able to salvage our trip to Peoria, Arizona to get up-close-and-personal with our Mariners at spring training. Each spring, baseball fans and families from around the country flock to Peoria to spend time in the sun watching their favorite team play in a casual and picnic in the park atmosphere.
The baseball crowds are gone but there is still so much family fun still to do in and around Peoria before the weather heats up for summer. Hotel rates go down as the heat begins to climb, meaning travel deal seekers will score With the nearby, historic Wigwam Resort as your home base, spring is a great time to explore West Phoenix’s local restaurants, craft breweries, the Challenger Space Museum, Wildlife World Zoo and Aquarium, hiking and more. Make sure you check Peoria’s Vistors Bureau site for a ton of helpful things to do and places to eat.
Peoria is a hidden gem of a family destination outside of the big resorts surrounding Phoenix and Scottsdale. If you don’t care about baseball, but want a quick and affordable family-friendly last minute spring weekend destination, I would point you to Peoria.
