I love Portland Oregon and Portland hotels. This small, eclectic city is where my husband and i grew up, but it has only been since we moved away, that we’ve come to enjoy and truly appreciate all this city has to offer. I share more about how you can take a Hipster family vacation to Portland with kids on the Expedia Viewfinder blog. If you are planning your trip to Portland, it is definitely worth a read. Over the last year, we’ve taken frequent trips to Portland to visit family and the Hotel Monaco Portland, a Kimpton Hotels property, is one of our favorite family friendly Portland hotels with kids.
Here’s what we like about this Portland hotel:
The location: The Hotel Monaco PDX is very convienent and walkable to the Waterfront, shopping and the local food truck scene. Hip Portland favorite restaurants like Mother’s Bistro and Mama Mia’s are also just a few blocks away.
The hotel style. I’m obsessed with the beautiful eclectic styling and details throughout the rooms and lobby. And did I mention the wallpaper?
The 1 bedroom suites. The larger guest rooms are spacious and offer sliding pocket doors with separate bedrooms for privacy or little ones who have to turn in early.
The hotel is dog friendly. The Hotel Monaco is truly one of the best dog friendly Portland hotels so we can feel comfortable bringing our Roxy dog with us on road trips from Seattle
Complimentary wine hour. That’s right. Enjoy complimentary wine from 5-6pm each evening in the lobby. Kids also can enjoy seasonal sweet treats and beverages and the whole family can relax before dinner in the living room.
Take a spin on the new smoothie bike. A new Smoothie Bike is available in the living room (lobby) for guests to use. It’s complimentary and available in the morning from 6-9am and evening from 5-6pm (during wine hour) every Friday. Smoothie and cocktail recipes from Red Star restaurant are loaded into a blender container and placed on the bike and you can can blend their own drink! It’s great in the morning for a healthy kick off and a fun element at wine hour.
A yoga mat in every room. Kimpton Hotels launched their new yoga program earlier this spring and it’s been such a huge success. Each room has a personal yoga mat and they offer a signature complimentary roll-out service where someone will come to your room, roll out your mat and create space for you to do yoga. They also will bring fresh towels, infused water and snacks and turn on the yoga channel so you are all set! Complimentary yoga classes are available every Tuesday at 7:30am throughout the summer, weather permitting, you meet in the lobby and walk to the Portland waterfront.
Complimentary retro cycles. What better way to experience Portland than by bike? The Monaco has a fleet of retro bikes that are complimentary to guests, complete with helmets, bike locks and bike maps.
New Red Star picnic menu. Grab a picnic and hop on your bike to explore and stop on the waterfront for a picnic lunch. The hotel just rolled out a new picnic menu that includes a variety of picnic packs to go from Red Star restaurant including quinoa salad with heirloom tomatoes, Northwest cheeses and meats and sandwiches on Dave’s Killer Bread.
I would also like to thank Kimpton Hotels Northwest for being such gracious hosts and for serving as home base during our many visits to Portland this year while we supported my step-father in his battle with cancer. The Hotel Monaco and Riverplace Hotel made us feel at home during a very difficult time for our family.
