Now that you’ve selected your retro cycle, you can hit the trails in style. Biking is economical, environmentally friendly, and the health benefits are innumerable. Riding together may just be the ultimate family experience! Not only are you together as a family, but independence and confidence are fostered as each family member takes turns as the lead. Your imprint on the environment is minimal if you stick to tracks, rail trails, and paved roads, and other than the initial outlay for the bikes and helmets, the cost of riding together is zero, zip, nada. Doesn’t get better than that!
I’d like to say I found a free website that listed all the bike trails around the US, but alas no. The best I came across is the subscription-based trails.com, and a smallie but a goodie great-trails.com. I suggest accessing your local state biking sites – here is Washington State’s. Please comment if you have more information on good bike trails around the country.
REI does, however, have a great cycling book collection, including Cycling the Palm Spring Region, Seattle Outdoors – Hiking and Cycling, Cycling Los Angeles, Rail Trails New England and just about every other major area you can think of.
So get out and discover your local bike trails, on your newly acquired retro wheels, and take a family trip down memory lane! Do you have any favorite places to bike, or trail map recommendations? Share it with us in the comments!
