Our quest for the ultimate family-friendly luxury vacation home in Palm Springs started when we were vacationing with our group of friends a few years ago. We’ve rented numerous vacation homes, and have spent a considerable amount of time researching properties in the area to find the perfect luxury accommodations that fit our family, style and budget. I have made it my mission to find the most hip accommodations at the best price. Modern properties are very popular here in Palm Springs. While mid century homes are a very nostalgic throw back to the “Rat Pack” vibe people are chasing, they may not be the best for children. Many of them have lots of sharp, unforgiving edges and concrete. Make sure that if you are looking for a modern design that it’s child-appropriate. The reservation agent you are speaking with should be able to steer you into homes that work for your needs.

HipTravelMama Tips:  If you are sharing a house with another family, try to find a property that has two masters on opposite sides of the house – it helps give each family privacy and also cuts down on the noise for young sleepers.

Q: What are the advantages of renting a house v. staying in a hotel in Palm Springs?

Renting a home is the ultimate private playground. All of our homes have private yards with pools. It’s just so nice to be able to fully relax and enjoy quiet time with your family.

Q: Is it standard to tip for house rental concierge services? If so, what percentage is standard?
I would say that if you use the Concierge, then yes. The amount people tip really varies on the services provided, so there really is no standard percentage.

Q: What are some of your insider tips for families traveling to Palm Springs?
Take advantage of the great things to do in the area! The Living Desert in Palm Desert is a great place to see all types of animals and kids really have a great time there. Riding the Tram up into the mountains is really great, especially in the summer when it’s sweltering on the valley floor. It’s at least 20 degrees cooler up there! And great views, hiking and dining. Makes a really fun day trip.
